Just how important is storytelling and visual communication?
Important enough that the Stanford University School of Design has an entire upper level course dedicated to it as shown by Kickstarter.
Apparently, Jonah Luke has some intuition on this because his video is one bad-ass example of storytelling and visual communication…
Kickstarter Video Idea: Excellent Visual Communication
Don’t worry if you can’t pull this off.
It is still worth watching and sharing as an example.
The amazing sketch artist brings another layer to the story by helping the viewer visualize the story while Jonah lays it out.
This is important as it helps the viewer internalize and retain the story ~ no forgetting by the end because the visual cue is still right there in front of you!
Internalizing a story brings with it a much stronger probability of personal connection which, in turn, brings with it a higher probability of pledging.
Like I said, don’t worry if you can’t pull this off, I couldn’t either!
But do think about techniques to bring additional depth to your story. What sorts of visual cues could you employ that would help move a viewer from backing to pledging?
A few suggestions off the top of my head include flipping poster boards with drawings or presenting objects that are connected to your story while you speak.
Storytelling = Organization = Professionalism = Purpose Worth Backing!
The real brilliance of this video, IMHO, lies in the storytelling and this is something that you can do.
In order to put together a video like this, you need to be super organized to bring laser-focus to your story.
This will most definitely be an asset in communicating with your audience.
Also, as I’ve said before, everyone thinks they are working with their best songs ever and that they want their project to be the best it can be.
Well, bring professionalism like Jonah’s to the table and you just might convince me!
Add up all of the components of this video – the organization and flow, the story and drawings, and the overall quality – and you have given the audience a Purpose Worth Backing: your best project ever.
Viewers will know this because you’ve already went through the great effort of bringing great quality to your story and your video.
