This is kind of cool…
I was looking at Doug & Telisha’s Kickstarter project at the very moment that it was funded ~ 1:55pm, mountain standard time, November 9th!
And it made me happy.
Because this, folks, is a solid country duo with a solid Kickstarter project: solid purpose, solid call to action, solid packages. Solid. Perhaps I should go add SOLID as a tag…

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN LOVE, LIFE, AND ART, IS THE TRUTH.
Their words, not mine.
Talk about adding instant sincerity and earnestness to a project.
Couple this with the fact that their subject matter is the stories of everyday people whom Doug and Telisha have met while touring and you have a solid purpose worth backing.
It’s sort of a study on the human spirit. Sounds kind of big and lofty when you say it that way, and maybe it is. But it’s our own honest look at what happens when things get tough.
A STRONG CALL TO ACTION
Doug and Telisha are another excellent example of executing a strong call to action. I won’t write much about this as the following screenshot tells the story:

VERY CREATIVE PACKAGES
This is actually my favorite part of this project… to the extent that I would put them in the Official Launch & Release Creative Package Hall of Fame!
First, let’s look at the creative elements they introduce.
Clever Language
At the $1 level: I’m Broke.
At the $10 level: For about the price of two cups fancy coffee, you can be a patron of the arts.
Overall, D&T craft their words well to be consistent with their personalities in a manner that is sincere, honest and funny.
When you can work your personality into the packages, it transforms a possibly stale, straight forward section of your Kickstarter into another opportunity to make an emotional/personal connection point.
Unique Offerings
Every artist puts their art into their reward packages, but D&T also really put themselves into their packages!
- $35 – Smells Like…Awesome: Telisha’s own perfume
- $50 – Get It While It’s HOT: hot pepper jelly right from D&T’s garden
- $150 – Now We’re Cookin’: an apron designed and sewn by Telisha
- $400 – Custom Folk Art: barn wood and guitar string folk art made by Doug
- $500 – DJ Jazzy Jeff or Folky Fran – Guest host on D&T’s show, Whiskey Wednesday, on East Nashville Radio
That is some cool swag!
Now, notice the nice distribution of backers they have throughout their packages.
This indicates good package design AND the ability for them to align their real-world personality and personal connection points with their Kickstarter project.
Think about what you have to offer. How can you give some of yourself?
Don’t be afraid, it’s not like you are going to have to do 500 pieces of Chainsaw Art (I like bears)! These sorts of unique and personal offerings will go into higher priced packages so it is pretty unlikely that you will be overwhelmed. If you are really afraid of that, do as Doug does with the folk art and offer a limited number.
