I want to say that I am profiling this Kickstarter because the Monty Python video parody is hilarious!
But I am not. Hilarious as the video may be, this Kickstarter does a superb job on a few other fronts.

ALIGN WITH A CAUSE
In the midst of a bustling music career, Gina has spent a significant amount of time doing volunteer work in El Salvador. Years not months!
Partnering with her fans, she has even provided scholarships for a college education to 2 girls there – Austin 4 El Salvador.
Of course, doing intensive, life-altering work like this has predictably diverted effort away from her music career.
To paraphrase, Gina has realized that ‘passion for social justice and music don’t have to be separate’, so she is combining the two!
As you read through her project description and watch her video, you realize just how much her persona is wrapped up in both. Dedicating herself to aiding such a noble cause is a very worthy purpose… A purpose worth backing.
Interestingly, it wasn’t until about the 3rd time I went through this Kickstarter that I realized that I have no idea how her music and humanitarian work will relate in this specific project, but I am still left with the overwhelming impression that they are related.

A CLEAR CALL TO ACTION
I talk about Call To Action around here quite a bit but I don’t think I have for a week or two.
To review, your Call To Action is how you move the audience from viewer to participant. A comprehensive Call To Action will specify:
- WHO should act, at least implicitly,
- WHAT the action is, and
- WHEN to do the action.
In our case, an example Call To Action would look something like: choose a reward package and become a project backer today!
I have seen a few great examples of a comprehensive Call To Action in one spot (click here to see one) but that is usually the exception.
For her part, Gina accomplishes a solid Call To Action over a few different steps: in the video (at about 3:27 mark), in the “tag line” right below the video (All she needs is YOU!) and in the project description near the bottom.
This is an important piece and many artists have a hard time nailing this. But if you’ve created a Kickstarter then you have a plan. Don’t let that plan slip away by failing to succinctly communicate what you need.

THE TAKEAWAY
This project is another example of a creative way to align with a cause. This can significantly extend your circle of influence (how far you reach). It may not work for everybody, but if you have a passion that you are active in, it can be a great tool.
And, another reminder towards a strong, clear Call To Action. If you are creating your Kickstarter project right now, be sure you make your Call To Action at least as well as Gina did.
